One very cold evening, I had arrived at Westfield far too early for Sweatshop’s running club. The sales were in full swing, so I decided to pop into a few stores for some browsing.
Browsing I said. Nothing more.
That slightly failed as I came out of the final store grinning at my purchases, finally ready to pound the streets of London.
This post is part of my 3-post series about 3 items I’ve bought from 3 of my favourite shops. As De La Soul said, 3 is the magic number. Today begins with Lush.
By now, I think everyone knows I’m slowly turning into a Lush fan (aka Lushie). I contemplated looking at the items in their sale, but when the Sales Assistant started talking to me, my mind went far away from that and onto more pressing issues; my hair, my hair, my hair.
I’m almost running out of my Davines shampoo and conditioner, so I thought about trying Lush’s hair products. The cold weather has really affected my hair, but a few other factors have meant my hair’s been feeling drier a lot more recently; I haven’t had a hair cut in a while, so the ends of my hair are feeling very dry and also limp and running in the cold is making it a little worse.
I bought the Rehab Shampoo and Retread Conditioner, which are both apparently for dry hair. Rehab has that addictive medicinal minty scent to it (from the peppermint oil I suppose). It has lots of other oils that are great for hair too, like olive oil, almond oil, juniperberry oil and jojoba oil, which should make it a great shampoo for my hair. I can’t wait to start using this.
Retread conditioner has a much softer scent and has lots of the good stuff for dry hair like olive and avocado oils and yoghurt. With Rehab and Retread, I’m hoping they’ll whip my hair back into shape.
It’s not just my hair that’s affected from the cold weather. My skin is too. I bought Herbalism as a cleanser. I didn’t really notice it until I returned home, but it smells a little odd in my view – a musty, minty kind of scent. It’s difficult to describe. I’ve read a few reviews that describe the smell as vinegar, I wouldn’t say that, but the last note of the smell is slightly vinegary. I’ve decided I don’t really like the scent anymore but I can’t wait to try this and see whether it will help rehydrate my skin.
It’s like Angels of Bare Skin, which I’ve mentioned on the blog before; it’s a dry, crumbly mush in a tub and you just take a little into your hands and add a small amount of water to turn it into a paste and use like a normal cleanser. The shelf life for this is only 2-3 months, but by then, winter will (hopefully) be over and hopefully it will have worked!
I’ll keep you updated on Twitter as to how I’m finding all of these.
What I love about Lush, is that you can get samples of face masks, which is great if you’re not too sure about the smell or if it will work for your skin. Just ask the Sales Assistant for a sample of the one(s) you want to try.
I decided to get Oatifix for my mum (I’m determined to put her back on a skin routine!) and Cupcake for myself. I’ve used Cupcake once before and loved it; I can’t tell you enough how much I love the smell and look of it. It looks a bit like dark chocolate cupcake frosting. Talking about it just makes me feel a little hungry! If you’re trying to curtail your chocolate cravings, this will be a wonderful alternative with the added bonus it won’t go straight to your hips and will do wonders for your skin!
Have you tried any of these Lush products before? What did you think of Herbalism? And what other Lush products should I try out? Drop a comment below or tweet me. Look forward to reading your views.
